Strix Systems Announces Access/One Network Deployment With KDDI in Japan

The Access/One Network Is Used to Deploy a Super-Hotspot at COLORFUL TOWN

CALABASAS, Calif., –August 31, 2004 – Strix Systems announce today a successful deployment of the Access/One Network at the huge commercial complex "COLORFUL TOWN" in Gifu Japan. KDDI Corporation (Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan) and Toyota Automall Development Corporation (Hashima-gun, Gifu prefecture, Japan) have launched a wireless LAN hotspot Internet service called "COLORFUL Spot," and selected the Strix Access/One Network to build the wireless infrastructure and provide connectivity to users. The Strix solution was selected after evaluating a number of WLAN systems based on its comprehensive feature set and ability to deploy the system completely wirelessly.

"We were looking for a wireless network that was robust enough for a large scale hotspot deployment yet flexible enough to meet our current and future requirements," said KDDI. "We selected the Access/One Network because using their mesh architecture we were able to deploy most of the nodes wirelessly, and we will easily be able to add more nodes to broaden our coverage area. In addition, we appreciate the modular aspect of the system which will allow us to easily add new wireless technologies going forward."

The "COLORFUL Spot" service covers a broad area, with the total coverage zone encompassing more than 5000m2. The project was launched by KDDI and the management of COLORFUL TOWN, Toyota Automall Development Corporation, to provide additional services to visitors and tenants. COLORFUL TOWN is a commercial complex housing auto dealers, stores, restaurants, movie theatres, and game arcades. Visitors to COLORFULO TOWN can stop at the information center to register for Internet access. Using PCs or PDAs with wireless LAN capabilities (IEEE 802.11b), registered visitors can access the Internet at no charge for up to three hours. DION*1 subscribers can utilize their DION ID at anytime to receive free Internet access. The experimental service will be offered free of charge until March 2005 with several new services being introduced during that period. Also planned are joint advertising campaigns with sponsors or tenants.

"We are pleased to partner with KDDI for this rollout in Japan," said Jay Yang, vice president of Asia Pacific for Strix. "We look forward to supporting them as they roll out this type of service across the country."

Strix Systems Products
The Strix Systems Access/One Network represents the next generation of wireless LAN products, leaping past the traditional access point and emerging switch architecture to Mesh; a self-discovering, self-configuring, self-tuning, and self-healing wireless network incorporating robust security and comprehensive management within a single wireless network. The Access/One Network consists of various modules, designed to stack on top of one another to form a network node. Multiple network nodes discover and connect to each other through a mesh topology to form a unique wireless system for each organization. The Access/One Network can be configured and managed via Manager/One, a comprehensive management platform that allows IT administrators to control all key elements of their wireless network. In addition Strix Systems offers Architect/One, an intuitive wireless network planning tool for Strix partners that designs and builds a radio frequency (RF) coverage map based on specific network requirements.
