Temporary Networks

All types of organizations around the world are realizing the benefits of using wireless networks to provide network access in environments that were traditionally hard to wire or impossible to wire. Wireless has enabled high speed connectivity for devices and people at large distributed Corporate facilities, hotels, oil fields, military installations, harbors, warehouses, campuses, and other locations where wired network access is difficult or impossible to provide. But what about locations like convention centers or disaster response areas that are difficult to wire, and require the network itself to be temporary? The Strix Access/One® Network is ideal for deployments where a network needs to be quickly installed, and then removed at the completion of a short term event or incident.

The Challenge:

A band on tour, a disaster response team from an oil and gas company, and a trade show exhibition company; what do they all have in common? They all set up in many locations over the course of a year, and want to have network access available to them. A previous option might have been to lay out wire, wasting valuable time to set up and take down the network, so they turned to wireless. But first generation wireless access points only eliminated the wire between the access point and the client device, but still require wiring to the access point. It's only a partial fix.

The Solution:

A Strix Access/One Network uses mesh technology, eliminating the need for wire when deploying networks in indoor and outdoor environments. Access/One Network nodes provide connectivity for clients, then aggregate that client traffic and route it throughout the mesh network until it reaches its termination point. If coverage is required over a few thousand square feet, or many square miles, the Access/One Network scales up or down to meet the specific requirements of the deployment. With a multi-radio, multi-channel, and multi-RF mesh system, the Access/One Network delivers high throughput and low latency across any size network. And, with the self-configuring, self-tuning, and self-healing features of the system, the network can be quickly installed, and is inherently reliable.

Management and security are built in to the system, providing single click system wide configuration changes while ensuring that unauthorized users can’t gain access. Best of all, when it comes time to remove the network it is as simple as unplugging the nodes and putting them in a box. Access/One Networks enable the temporary deployment of high performance mesh networks that are secure, manageable, scalable, and easy to install and operate.

Strix Advantages for Temporary Networks:

  • Self-Configuring and Self-Tuning – An Access/One Mesh Network configures itself and tunes itself for optimal performance, making for a quick installation and reliable operation
  • High Performance – Multi-radio, multi-channel mesh system delivers high bandwidth and low latency across multiple hops so the network can be used for real-time applications like voice and video, in addition to data
  • All Environments – With extended operating temperature ranges and weatherproof enclosures, Access/One Networks can be deployed as temporary networks in any indoor or outdoor environment
  • Highly Scalable – Nodes can be easily added to extend coverage areas or to accommodate increased user density
