Outdoor/Mobile Enterprise

All types of organizations around the world are realizing the benefits of using wireless networks to provide network access in environments that were traditionally hard to wire or impossible to wire. Enterprises are quickly realizing the benefits that deploying wireless LANs can bring to their organizations. Improvements in worker productivity, network flexibility, and reduced IT expenses are driving the tremendous growth that we are seeing in enterprise adoption. Wireless has enabled high speed connectivity for devices and people at large distributed Corporate facilities, hotels, oil fields, military installations, harbors, warehouses, campuses, and other locations where wired network access is difficult or impossible to provide. And what about locations such as convention centers or disaster response areas that are difficult to wire, and require the network itself to be temporary?

IT administrators, engineers and network operators have realized, some painfully, that wireless/WiFi products and the networks they create are not alike, and if selected haphazardly, the network will not support enterprise/productivity-critical applications. Network administrators have come to realize that certain criteria must be met when selecting a wireless solution.

Advantages To Customers

  • Fast deployments for immediate delivery of services
  • Builds large secured/encrypted infrastructure for business-critical data, voice and video applications.
  • Large scale wireless network management which integrates with existing IT environments
  • Quality of service and a high-speed switched-wireless architecture makes applications work better than first-in-first out.
  • An integrated solution that scales with need - no matter if user population increases or coverage areas need to be extended.
  • Modular systems allow for new RF capabilities to be "plugged-in" as needed.
  • Upgradeable remotely to single units or the entire network painlessly to new capabilities.
  • Manageable - there's no need to orchestrate engineers. The systems are designed for the least amount of user intervention. present. for upgradeable system that easily supports adding new user coverage areas, or adding capacity or new RF technologies to existing nodes

Strix Systems Outdoor Enterprise ApplicationsAny Place, Any Where, Any Time - It's the enabler, fostering faster, and perhaps better, communications to occur. Wireless mobile access is responsible for timely communications, enabling critical situations to be addressed - news and events, emails and online presentations. It's all important if you realize the impact that each has on our lives. This is why hot-spots and hot-zones are important and answers the big question: "How can you make money by providing wireless access". It's a mute point now that over 110,000 hot spots are in place today with millions of subscribers world-wide. Planes and airports, trains and train stations, multi-tenant offices, hotel lobbies and guest rooms. The applications are limited only by your imagination.

Strix Access/One® Network family of products immediately addresses the needs of all hot-zpot, hot-zone and much larger applications. The Access/One provides the highest throughput, lowest latency and the greatest degree of scalability and ease of use compared to any other solution. Voice, data, video - all applications are supported simultaneously with no additional configuration. Self-configuring, self-tuning and simple browser-based management that scales to the largest hot-zones, city and country-wide implementations. The Access/One products are installed and provide instantly secured node-to-node meshing and immediate access to authentication resources such as a Internet Gateway, where services may be controlled and charged based on the users requirements.

General Decision Criteria

Strix Systems Outdoor Enterprise Applications

Reliable

The Access/One Network builds in levels of redundancy not available in access point or switch products. Intelligence is distributed throughout the network, eliminating single points of failure. And, the Access/One Network is able to route around network congestion or radio interference, ensuring that the Access/One Network is operating optimally at all times.

Scalable

The Access/One Network is built to grow. Modular hardware means that new technologies can be added as easily as snapping on a module. And, additional coverage areas are added by powering up nodes, applying the existing configuration, and accepting them into the network. It's that simple. And, using the Strix mesh feature, Strix nodes can be deployed without running Ethernet to each node. It's no problem to deploy a network in areas where Ethernet cable is not readily available. And, the Access/One Network is voice ready, so IT managers can deploy a converged wireless network to support both voice and data users.

Secure

Authorize users, encrypt traffic, and monitor your network; the important criteria for security. The Access/One Network has the most advanced security features available in a WLAN.

Manageable

IT managers can use their enterprise manager, or use the simple to navigate Manager/One web based management tool available from Strix. Either way the system can be managed with a single click, whether it be to apply security settings or monitor the performance of the network, all changes can be made through a single interface and applied network wide.

Performance

The Access/One Network supports all wireless LAN standards (802.11a, b, g), including the proprietary high speed versions, so maximum wireless network performance up to 108 mbps is achieved.

Cost

Total cost of deployment for an Access/One Network is less than 30% of the cost to deploy a wired infrastructure. Total cost of ongoing ownership is less than 10% of the cost of an average wired infrastructure.

The Access/One Network

Networks Without Wires® is the wave of the future. Enterprises are realizing the many benefits that come from deploying wireless networks. Increasing worker productivity and lowering network operating costs are just two of the many advantages that come to companies that choose to deploy an Access/One Network.

Strix Advantages:

  • Multi-radio nodes deliver performance – up to 6 radios per node, each dedicated for a specific function (ingress, egress, or client access) make the system capable of delivering high performance and low latency
  • Multi-channel and multi-RF support – radios operating in both the unlicensed 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz spectrums allows the network to separate user access and the mesh backbone, allowing the network to better adapt to interference
  • Voice, Video, and Data – Using the Virtual/Strix and Priority/One features the Access/One Network can support mixed use deployments where multiple user types securely share the same network, with traffic being priorities based on user class or traffic type
  • A High Multi-Hop Mesh – All the self-configuring, self-tuning, and self-healing advantages of a mesh network, but the ability to repeat traffic over multiple hops and still deliver high performance and low latency in the network.
