CALABASAS, California, August 21, 2007
CORE NEWS FACTS
Strix Systems, the leader in high-performance wireless mesh networking, today announced the first in a series of “Solution Sets” designed to give integrators pre-tested, interoperable building blocks to simplify and speed the deployment for public safety and other key wireless mesh applications.
The initial Mobility Solution Set is targeted at WiFi roaming and high-speed mobility for applications including railway and transportation systems. Strix mobility solution allows customers to provide wireless Internet and private network access end-to-end, while at in motion and at high-speed even where there are no existing power sources. Solar grids connected to uninterrupted power supplies (UPS) light up the mesh in any terrain while the Strix mobility solutions can also serve as a foundation for other critical applications including video surveillance, voice over IP (VoIP), railroad engine diagnostics, remote switches, sensors and other applications. Such solutions immediately resolve challenges related to the deployment of rural, city and country-wide WiFi networks, but also meet the needs of mission critical communications for public safety, mining, oil, water and gas production and many other industries.
“The goal of the Solution Set series is to provide our partners with tested and recommended components utilized for a wide range of applications ideal for wireless mesh networks,” said Kirby Russell, director of product marketing at Strix Systems. “We validate and stress-test the components in our Calabasas labs and certify those that can keep up with the high performance standards delivered by our Access/One products. Once a Solution Set is certified, our partners can sell and install new applications with full assurance that they will work as advertised ‘out of the box.’”
During the week-long certification process, the Solution Set is tested for key interoperability, compatibility, and performance elements in a variety of conditions. To ensure the wireless mesh will work at peak levels when deployed, the Solution Set is certified only if it can support the native high throughput, low latency, and failover characteristics of the Strix Access/One systems. Strix has certified the following components for the Mobility Solution Set:
- Accela's mobile application, Accela Wireless™, can be used by state and local agencies that deploy staff to the field to complete a variety of regulatory processes including building and safety inspections, investigations, damage assessment inspections, code enforcement cases, work orders, service requests, and more.
- In Motion Technology's onBoard™ Mobile Gateway and onBoard™ Mobility Manager, providing vehicle area networks that provide seamless connectivity using a cognitive wireless system.
- NetMotion Mobility XE Mobile VPN for wireless mobile environments allows users to seamlessly move in and out of wireless coverage areas. NetMotion's award winning Mobile VPN, Mobility XE, enhances worker productivity while providing highly-centralized control and management.
- Identiprise SecuredMobile for comprehensive Operations Support Systems (OSS) and mobile security solutions for municipal wireless networks.
- Connectronics Solar Integrated Power Systems (SIRP) providing power back-up from 2 to 10 days without sun including lockable enclosure, controller, solar panel, solar mounts and batteries.
- Solarcraft, Inc. COM-PAK™, SOLARADIO™ and ECONO-PAK™ rugged self-contained solar and back-up power systems ranging from miniature solar generators to long-term power backup systems.
"We're excited to partner with Strix Systems and to be a part of this endeavor to drive deployment of mesh networks," said Kirk Moir, president and CEO for In Motion Technology. "Municipalities are anxious to deploy these networks to their public safety workers and consumers, and by certifying partners, applications and equipment, we believe Strix Systems will significantly shorten overall deployment schedules. Enabling Public Safety professionals to leverage the benefits of this type of network while in motion is a vital part of the equation, a part that In Motion Technology is uniquely positioned to provide."
The Strix Mobility Solution Set enables railway systems to support US government initiatives for an Intelligent Transport System (ITS). The ITS project is designed to help relieve transportation congestion in major urban areas but also has applications for Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Response. Likewise, the Mobility Solution Set can support military and other mobile roaming applications.
“Strix solution set program was a great asset as Datel deployed the video surveillance network for the North County Transit District and the Coaster train,” said Billy Bryant, Director of Sales, Datel. “By having the network elements already tested and approved, it dramatically reduced the amount of time required to install and finalize the network.”
Strix has tested and certified products in the following categories: Planning tools, Subscriber Management, Operations Support Systems (OSS), Roaming and High-Speed Mobility, Bandwidth Management, Client Devices, 4.9GHz devices, Video Surveillance, Meter Reading, Network Infrastructure, VoIP, Antenna Technologies, Backhaul, Power Systems (Solar & UPS).

About Strix Access/One Products
The Strix Access/One OWS and IWS modular mesh products deliver the largest capacity (up to six radios and 768 users per node, three to six times the norm), highest throughput (five times the norm at 35 Mbps), and best scalability (users can add more radio boards or new technologies). An independent wireless mesh test, sponsored by Light Reading and completed in June 2006, found Strix’s OWS 2400-30 delivers the best throughput and capacity and the greatest scalability for voice applications and mobility/roaming. Strix networks scale to 10 or more wireless hops with near-zero throughput loss and latency, enabling customers to deliver real-time applications with a minimum of wired connections for a given area, which reduces CapEx and OpEx.
About Strix Systems
Strix Systems is the worldwide leader in wireless mesh networking. Strix’s Access/One products are the industry’s only modular (chassis-based) mesh systems, delivering the largest capacity, highest throughput and best scalability. This new generation of products provides the broadband mobility and reach to support voice, video, and data applications. Sold globally by a network of first-class distributors and integrators, Access/One solutions have been deployed in hundreds of networks worldwide, outdoor and indoor, for service providers, metros, public safety, government, energy, transportation, hospitality, education, enterprises, and residential markets.
