STRIX SYSTEMS’ NEW EWS 150 EXTENDS OUTDOOR WIRELESS MESH EDGE INDOORS WITH INDUSTRY’S HIGHEST POWER, LONGEST REACH

Strix’s Latest CPE Solution Enables Seamless Wireless Connectivity for Carriers, Municipalities, Enterprises, and Public Safety Agencies

CALABASAS, Calif., May 1, 2007 – Strix Systems, the leader in high-performance wireless mesh networking, today introduced the industry’s highest-powered mesh extension, the Access/One® Network Edge Wireless System 150 (EWS 150). The EWS 150 provides a high-performance backhaul Wi-Fi connection to Strix’s Access/One Outdoor Wireless Systems (OWS) and Indoor Wireless Systems (IWS), enabling an end-to-end wireless experience and seamless inside/outside roaming. Designed for use by carriers, municipalities, public safety agencies, and enterprises, the new Strix product supports a broad range of voice, video, and data applications.

“The Strix EWS 150 truly enables the wireless last-mile connection,” said Nan Chen, vice president of product management and marketing at Strix. “Because the EWS 150 is designed so its signals penetrate multiple walls, it is a perfect solution for those who cannot install an antenna on the outside of a building to access a Strix OWS wireless mesh network.”

The EWS 150 is powered by Strix’s Dynamic Mesh Architecture™ (DMA™), which provides the highest power and longest reach of any indoor wireless mesh network CPE. With long-range connectivity of 54 Mbps and throughput of 24 Mbps, the EWS 150 has the capacity to be deployed as an alternative to other last-mile access technologies. The new product incorporates a single radio with two antennas (802.11b/g) to connect to Strix’s OWS or IWS networks as well as an Ethernet port for connection to the user’s router or computer.

“One of the significant obstacles to offering ubiquitous Internet throughout a metro area is bringing the wireless mesh outdoor Internet connectivity indoors,” said Sandy Bendremer, vice president of Galaxy Internet Services. “The high-powered EWS 150 provides the best wall-penetrating power, therefore giving service providers like Galaxy the ability to offer indoor services as well.” Galaxy Internet Services is deploying Strix’s Access/One OWS for the city-wide Wi-Fi network in Brookline, Massachusetts.

End-to-End Quality and Security
To ensure an end-to-end, indoor/outdoor quality experience, the EWS 150 offers definable QoS and security features. However a service provider defines QoS for its OWS-based mesh network, it can offer the same QoS on the EWS 150. For end users, this capability enables applications including VoIP and multimedia to perform better indoors. For providers, end-to-end QoS makes it easier to up-sell higher-level services and provide different levels of service. The EWS 150 supports a series of security features, including Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP).

“For the best possible metro-scale Wi-Fi mesh performance, in terms of both throughput and reliability, customer premises equipment is essential,” said Craig Mathias, a principal with the wireless and mobile advisory firm Farpoint Group. “The EWS 150 points the way to a future where wireless broadband is the access of choice for both residential and business customers.”

Availability and Price
The Strix EWS 150 is available now for order now at a list price of $159 USD.

About Strix OWS
The Strix Access/One OWS modular mesh products deliver the largest capacity (up to six radios and 768 users per node, three to six times the norm), highest throughput (five times the norm at 35 Mbps), and best scalability (users can add more radio boards, 4.9GHz, WiMAX modules, or new technologies). An independent wireless mesh test sponsored by Light Reading and completed in June 2006 found Strix’s OWS 2400-30 delivers the best throughput and capacity, the greatest scalability for voice applications, and the best mobility/roaming. Strix networks scale to 10 or more wireless hops with near-zero throughput loss and latency. Customers can deliver real-time applications with a minimum of wired connections for a given area, which reduces CapEx and OpEx.

About Strix Systems
Strix Systems is the proven worldwide leader in wireless mesh networking. Strix’s Access/One products are the industry’s only modular (chassis-based) mesh systems, delivering the highest throughput, lowest latency, greatest capacity and unparalleled scalability. This new generation of products provides the broadband mobility and reach to support voice, video, and data applications. Sold globally by a network of first-class distributors and integrators, Access/One solutions have been deployed in hundreds of networks worldwide, outdoor and indoor, for the service providers, metro, public safety, government, energy, transportation, hospitality, education, enterprise, and residential markets.
