Strix Systems Names Metro Ethernet Veteran Nan Chen as Vice President of Marketing

CHEN’S EXPERTISE IN EMERGING MARKETS FURTHER STRENGTHENS STRIX’S EXPERIENCED MANAGEMENT TEAM

CALABASAS, Calif. – October 11, 2005 – Strix Systems, the technology leader in high-performance wireless mesh networking, has named Nan Chen as its vice president of marketing. Chen, the president of the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) and founding director of the 10 Gigabit Ethernet Alliance (10 GEA), will leverage his innovative expertise in marketing telecommunications companies and emerging markets to lead Strix’s world-class marketing organization. Chen will report to Bruce Brown, Strix Systems’ president and CEO.

(Editor’s note: Chen will moderate the Service Provider and Enterprise User Round Table at Light Reading’s Ethernet Expo 2005, which will be held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City from Oct. 12-14. The round table will take place on Thursday, Oct. 13, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. EDT).

“Strix has emerged as a technology leader in high-performance wireless mesh networking,” said Brown. “Nan, with his unmatched experience in marketing and managing network products and companies, will help turn our technology leadership into market leadership. Nan’s background makes him the perfect complement to our existing senior management team.”

Prior to Strix, Chen was vice president of marketing for Atrica Inc., where he successfully positioned Atrica as the industry-recognized leader and market visionary in metro Ethernet solutions for metropolitan area networks. He also drove the vision of metro Ethernet in the industry as well as its rapid adoption worldwide. As the president and active voice of the MEF, a role that he will maintain while at Strix, Chen sees metro-scale mesh networking as a natural technology progression and an emerging force in the adoption of carrier-class broadband networks and services.

“The entire networking world is reinventing itself, and this reincarnation will be all that the Ethernet community has imagined and more—but without wires,” said Chen. “Metro-scale wireless mesh networking is a new driving force in this reincarnation, and Strix is at the forefront of the new networking technology. I look forward to leading Strix’s world-class marketing team to define and market its products and technologies while driving this revolution industry wide.”

Prior to Atrica, Chen was director of product management and product marketing at Force10 Networks. Before that, he was director of technology at Nortel (through Nortel’s acquisition of Bay Networks/SynOptics), where he was responsible for new technology introductions, including 10 Gigabit Ethernet and IP QoS. Chen has received more than10 major industry accolades and awards, including a Best Marketing Award.
