INSA Lyon Selects Strix Systems

Lyon, France Engineering School Deploys Access/One Network

CALABASAS, Calif., – June 28, 2004 – Strix Systems, a technology leader in wireless local area networking systems, announced today that INSA Lyon, a multidisciplinary engineering school, has selected Access/One Network as its wireless solution for the computer science department.  The decision follows a successful study and trial by INSA, CIS Rhone-Alpes, and DACLEM Solutions, the Strix business partners in France.

The network will reach into areas where normal wiring could not, including a laboratory and meeting rooms.  Students can now also use their laptops in lecture rooms and the amphitheater, where no computer connections were previously installed.  The network will also provide mobile wireless access to students, staff and visitors throughout the computer science building.  INSA tested a variety of clients in addition to laptop computers, such as PDAs, Wi-Fi mobile phones and a small Wi-Fi capable robot.

“Security is an important aspect of the decision,” said Sean Gavin, vice president for Strix’s European operation.   “Strix’s unique mesh technology allows for fast and cost effective deployments of wireless networks with a full array of encryption and authentication features to secure the network.  We are able to separate users on individual, secure paths within a common infrastructure, meeting the demands of the INSA deployment.”

"The INSA deployment with Strix Systems is a good illustration of our technology leadership where we leverage our expertise of the education business plus our new partnership," said Marc Gilles, president of CIS Rhone-Alpes.   "Strix Systems differentiators – quick & easy deployment over large distances, outstanding security features and flexibility for evolution – make this network open to grow across the campus and address the combined needs of teachers, students and other personnel."

“We found Access/One Network to be the best solution for INSA Lyon’s need to augment wiring and provide mobility to students,” said Edgardo da Fonseca, president and founder of DACLEM Solutions.  “We especially liked the modularity, flexibility, management, and ease of deployment.  The Architect/One planning tool made network design easy.”

Strix Systems Products
The Strix Systems Access/One Network represents the next generation of wireless LAN products, leaping past the traditional access point and emerging switch architecture to Mesh; a self-discovering, self-configuring, self-tuning, and self-healing wireless network incorporating robust security and comprehensive management within a single wireless network. The Access/One Network consists of various modules, designed to stack on top of one another to form a network node. Multiple network nodes discover and connect to each other through a mesh topology to form a unique   wireless system for each organization. The Access/One Network can be configured and managed via Manager/One, a comprehensive management platform that allows IT administrators to control all key elements of their wireless network.
